Paddles

  1. -Any number of single-blade paddles of any material may be in the canoe.

  2. -Double-bladed paddles are not permitted in any class except the Open Kayak class.


Life Preservers

  1. -Every competitor must wear a vest-type, United States Coast Guard approved life preserver during the entire race. 

  2. -Those not wearing an approved life preserver will be disqualified.


Clothing & Medical Help

  1. -These may be given to a competitor by spectators provided there is no interference with any other competitors.


Alcoholic Beverages

  1. -These are prohibited in the canoes and kayaks.


Portages or Routes

  1. -Only officially designated portages or routes are to be used.  Emergency obstacle conditions may occur, in which case a canoe may be moved over or around the obstacle.

  2. -Other than emergency situations, canoes must stay in the water.  One or both competitors may get out of the canoe and drag or carry the canoe provided that they stay in the water.


Competitors who fail to reach the finish line by 5:30 p.m. will be considered withdrawn from the race.  Timekeepers shall no longer be recording times after 5:30 p.m.


Anyone who withdraws from the race must immediately notify a race official.


Water levels vary.  Contestants concerned about water levels should consult U.S. Geological Survey Water Information System for the Dyberry Creek and the Lackawaxen River.

- Short Classes: Canoes 17’ 6” or less in length

- Junior / High School Class: any paddler less than 18 years of age on race day
