Canoe Race

Wayne County Canoe Classic
Sunday September 20th, 2020

Come and join us for a 9 Mile race on the beautiful Lackawaxen river. Check in begins at 9am for a prompt 11am start time at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Dyberry Township. Boats launch every two minutes down Dyberry Creek toward Honesdale. Dyberry Creek merges into the Lackawaxen for a beautiful trek down river. See the town of Honesdale from a different perspective as you travel a river rich with history. From there, you continue downstream, finally ending in White Mills at Factory Field (previously Fireman’s Field) at the intersection of White Mills Road and Route 6.

What should we do first? Please come to the start of the race at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are off of 191 North on Miller Drive. Our launch location is on the right before the turn to go up the hill to the Dessin Animal Shelter. Though we encourage you to adopt a furry friend, if you see Dessin you’ve gone too far! There is a parking lot you may use to drop off your canoe or kayaks for the race. Please drop off your canoe/kayak and check in with us so we can assign you your number, give you your tag and your awesome t-shirt, and get you all set to go before you drive all the way to the finish to drop off your vehicle and shuttle back.

Where do we park? The address for the end of the race is in the field across the street from 8 Riverside Drive, White Mills, PA 18473. When making the turn onto White Mills Road from Route 6, cross the bridge and follow the signs on your right. We will direct you on where to park. A shuttle will then take you back to the start to begin the race. Please note that the race will start promptly and participants will be taken in order. The shuttle will continue to run until noon, however, we encourage all participants to be back to the race start by no later than 10:45am.

Will there be food/drink available for purchase?
We will have items available for purchase at both the start and finish of the race.

Are there public restroom facilities? We are proud to be sponsored by CeeJay’s Portable Restrooms to offer restroom facilities at the start and finish of the race.

What can I expect for weather? The past couple of years we have experienced air temperature in the 60s. However, the water temperature can be quite frigid and it is suggested to dress appropriately.

What happens when its over? Stay and hang out with us. There will be music and food for sale, cheer your competition on as they come down the river! Talk to us about becoming a volunteer!

How do I know who won? We will post a list of the winners and their times at the conclusion of the race. The list will also be available to view on our facebook/website and in the Wayne Independent.

Do I have to register online? Online registration is not required but is encouraged as it is extremely convenient and safe. If you would rather not register online you can fill out a paper application and mail it to us.
